New eco-friendly trend at cruise ports?
It is no secret that the trend for environmentally friendly energy is growing rapidly throughout the world. In the cruise industry, this is most reflected in the construction of new cruise ships based on LNG engines.
But there are other ways to reduce carbohydrate emissions...
One of these new methods will be connecting to electricity in ports and, as a result, turning off (completely or partially) the engines of cruise ships.
An example of such a solution is the port Kiel, Germany. Last weekend (23-24.09.2023) in the terminal Ostuferhaven a port power plant was opened to service the new cruise ship MSC Euribia.

The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein Daniel Gunter and Lord Mayor Ulf Kaempfer, as well as representatives of the port, technical partner Siemens, captain MSC Euribia Christopher Pugh and senior cruise line officials.
According to previously signed agreements, the liner MSC Euribia, who cruises around Northern Europe, will be served by the port power system not only in the port Kiel but also to the port Hamburg.
From our experience, we can say with confidence that in the near future other cruise companies will adopt this new trend.
