To board the ship, you must:

  • Upon arrival at the port, attach printed electronic baggage tags with your data to your luggage (you can ask porters to help with this). All MSC Yacht Club guests are offered a private check-in desk at most ports, a team of butlers will assist with luggage at the terminal and guide you to a dedicated line for priority check-in. Upon request, the butler will unpack guests' suitcases already in the cabin.

Travel documents.

Passport:

To travel on any of the itineraries offered by MSC Cruises, you will need a national passport valid for at least 4 months from the date of return from the trip (some countries require a longer period), children also need a separate passport. For children under 18 traveling without parents, in addition to a passport, a power of attorney issued for an accompanying adult passenger is required. After boarding, you may be asked to hand over your passport to the MSC Cruises immigration officer for all or part of the cruise, depending on the regulations of the immigration authorities of the countries included in the cruise itinerary. Passport surrender procedure is extended to citizens of all countries outside the European Union, in order to save the passenger from the daily immigration formalities at each port. We recommend that you make a copy of the first page of your passport in advance, which, together with your Cruise Card, will serve as proof of your identity on shore.

Diplomatic and service passports

Please note that the cruise itself unequivocally defines the purpose of the passenger's trip as tourist, which requires the use of a general passport with a valid tourist visa. Therefore, border guards have the right to refuse to board a passenger on a service or diplomatic passport.

Visas:

A visa must be a tourist visa, as being on a cruise ship clearly determines the purpose of your trip. If a cruise ship calls at a port of a non-Schengen country, an entry visa for that country is required (except for countries that allow visa-free entry for citizens of the respective countries, visa-free transit or visa processing on the spot).

Baggage.

Your personal luggage is under your own responsibility, so we recommend that you insure it against loss or damage. We recommend that passengers carry any medications, documents, etc. in hand luggage.

Baggage restrictions must be observed - up to two checked suitcases per person, each not exceeding 90x75x43 cm and weighing 23 kg, and two pieces of hand luggage per person, the size of which must not exceed 56x45x25 cm and weighing 23 kg ( for MSC Grand Voyages there is an additional restriction: 100 kg / 8 pieces of baggage per cabin). Any piece of baggage that exceeds the allowed limit will not be accepted at check-in.

Baby strollers and wheelchairs are allowed, but this must be reported when booking the cruise. All luggage will be stored in the cabin.

When flying, check the requirements of specific airlines for the carriage of baggage.

Air transportation.

In case of loss of baggage due to the fault of the airline, MSC Cruises will offer assistance in tracing the baggage. Working directly with the baggage tracing services of each airport, we will do our best to locate lost baggage and, if possible, arrange for it to be delivered to the ship at one of the following ports. In order for us to coordinate the tracing process, please provide us with a copy of the Lost Baggage in Transit (P.I.R.) report issued to you by the baggage tracing officer at the airport.

At Genoa Airport, there is a comfortable MSC Lounge and MSC Terrace, which are available only for our guests. The lounge and terrace are located in the departures area, above the check-in counters, next to the airport restaurant/buffet. The MSC terrace is open during the spring/summer months when the weather conditions are favorable, only open on the days when our boat is in the port of Genoa.

Medical service.

All of our ships have a well-equipped medical office staffed by a qualified doctor and medical staff. The opening hours of the medical office are indicated in the program of the day of the liner. An ambulance can be called at any time using the emergency medical number.

While a wide range of medications are available on board, they may not meet your personal needs. Therefore, we always advise guests to bring their own medicines with them.

Medical services on board are paid extra. The cost of services is indicated in the price list of the medical center, and payment is automatically deducted from your onboard card.

In the event of an insured event, you need to notify the insurance company by calling the phone number indicated in your health insurance policy, pay for medical care on board yourself and keep receipts. Upon returning from the cruise, you can apply to the insurance company for reimbursement of the costs incurred.

This practice makes it possible to provide medical care of a higher class. This service is paid. In order to use the service, you must contact the Medical Center during business hours or, in case of an emergency, at any time of the day.

Parking.

Park & Cruise – this is the most convenient way to park at the port. The principle of parking differs from port to port, depending on the options available - valet parking or self-parking next to the cruise terminal. You can simply leave your car at the baggage drop-off area and board (in some cases, a shuttle bus runs from the car park to the terminal and back as an alternative). MSC Cruises has special parking arrangements at most major ports of embarkation. This service is paid.

Animals.

No pets are allowed on board with the exception of guide dogs. In any case, you must request permission for a guide dog from the cruise company at the time of booking.

Visitors.

For security reasons, visitors are not allowed on board.

Training boat alarm for guests.

Safety training and briefings are held at the beginning of each cruise to familiarize passengers with emergency equipment and evacuation procedures in the event of an emergency.

Safety training takes place on the day of boarding at the main cruise ports, and safety briefings are held for all passengers who start their cruise at the secondary ports. Trainings are carried out in one or several languages and are mandatory for the entire crew and all passengers; on cruises with Russian-speaking groups, training is conducted in Russian. The purpose of the practical exercises is to familiarize with the evacuation procedure. Passengers are asked to bring their life jackets from their cabins and proceed to their Muster/Assembly stations, as they would in the event of a real threat. There they receive all the necessary safety instructions. Briefings also provide full information on special equipment and procedures, including emergency evacuation procedures. Passengers are informed in advance about the time of all safety measures both in the daily programs of the day and through the ship's warning system.

In addition to passenger training, general crew emergency training is held twice a month, including fire simulation and lifeboat evacuation. This ensures that the crew is fully prepared for any surprises. All training and safety briefings on board MSC Cruises are fully compliant with the stringent requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS).

MSC Cruises constantly reaffirms its commitment to strict adherence to the principles of safety and tranquility on board its ships, conducting safety training to the highest standards in order to achieve the greatest possible clarity and consistency during passenger training.

Storage of valuables.

MSC Cruises is not responsible for the loss or theft of valuables or money left unattended on the ship, stored in the cabin or in personal luggage. Therefore, we recommend using safes in cabins or safes in the information office for storing valuables.

Languages on board

The company uses six official languages: English, Italian, German, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. The order in which languages are used for announcements over the speakerphone is determined solely by the number of guests - representatives of a particular language group as a percentage. The cabin information booklet and other printed materials used on board are provided in each of the six languages listed above.

Payments on board.

Prices on board MSC Cruises ships are quoted in Euros (except for navigation in the Caribbean departing from the US, South America, South Africa and MSC Grand Voyages ending in Europe, where prices are quoted in US dollars). There is a cashless payment system on board all ships. For all expenses incurred on board, you will use the Magnetic Cruise Card received at check-in for your cruise and validated by your credit card or cash deposit.

When you pay for any services or goods on board, you will be given checks to sign, and all the amounts you spent will be recorded on the Cruise Card. All bills for purchases at bars, restaurants, cafes, spas and hairdressers are subject to a 15% service charge. We recommend that you keep receipts to avoid possible disagreements with the administration about the funds you spent. If your Cruise Card balance (confirmed by cash deposit) approaches zero during a cruise, you will be asked to deposit additional funds into your account. At the end of the cruise, the amount you spent will be debited from your credit card (in case of confirmation of the Cruise Card by credit card), or the balance of the deposit will be returned (in case of cash guarantees).

Important. Credit cards will only be charged on the day the cruise ends. During a cruise, the cruise line will only block amounts that are proportionate to your spending. Please note that after the withdrawal, these amounts may remain blocked for some period (depending on the specific bank.

 Service fee

On a cruise on a liner, you will be served everywhere by excellently trained staff. In addition, you have the same number of employees and crew working for you day and night, whom you do not see, but thanks to whom you can enjoy every moment of your holiday. To make sure you don't have to worry, MSC Cruises automatically includes a daily accommodation service charge on your bill. Its size depends on the route you choose and the number of days of the actual provision of services. The Service Fee provides our guests with the highest quality service. The daily fee calculations below include all details and are not subject to change. However, if you decide to refuse to pay it due to unsatisfactory service, you can always contact the customer service manager on board the ship.

If you wish, you can pay the amount of the service fee before the cruise, you must notify your agent about this when booking the cruise.

Tips: MSC Cruises does not recommend giving cash tips to individual crew members.

Smoking

MSC Cruises respects the habits and desires of all its Guests. Therefore, it carefully considers the needs of both smokers and non-smokers. In accordance with global standards, the number of smoking areas on board is limited. Smoking is freely permitted only in those areas that are pre-determined on each ship, based on the availability of sufficient powerful air conditioning. Smoking, including e-cigarettes, is not allowed in catering areas (buffets and restaurants, bars in cafes where food is served), medical centers, kids clubs, hallways, elevator lobbies, safety exercise areas, drop-off and boarding areas passengers-ditch, toilets.

Due to the obvious risk of fire, smoking is prohibited in cabins and on all cabin balconies. If this rule is violated or traces of smoking are found in the cabin or on the balcony, the passenger will be charged a fine of 70 euros.

Smoking is allowed in a number of bars on each ship, as well as on one (marked) side of the open deck near the main pool, where ashtrays are available. It is forbidden to throw cigarette butts overboard, as they may be blown back on board by the wind, which could lead to a fire.

Cloth.

The atmosphere on board is quite democratic, so we recommend loose clothing for every day, which is also well suited for shore excursions. We advise you to bring a pullover or a shawl with you to protect yourself from temperature drops between air-conditioned rooms and open decks. In the evenings, a sweater or a light jacket may not be superfluous. There are gala evenings during the cruise, for which we recommend dressing appropriately, dark suits are recommended for men, evening or cocktail dresses are recommended for ladies. The "dress code" in this case applies only to the evening, including dinner time. The program of the day must include information about the recommended evening dress. For excursions that involve visiting churches, temples, mosques, strict clothing is recommended, excluding shorts, bermudas, short skirts, necklines, tops, etc.

 Program of the day

Every evening, a detailed program prepared by the Cruise Directorate for the next day is sent to the cabins to inform passengers about the activities and entertainment offered on board, inform the opening hours of all services, announce store promotions, remind them to change the clock, etc. On cruises with Russian-speaking groups, the programs of the day are provided in Russian (on some cruises, the Russian-language program of the day is available only from the second day of the cruise).

Members of the MSC Voyagers Club.

Membership is open to all MSC Cruises guests who have taken at least one cruise with MSC Cruises since 2006 or have a confirmed MSC Cruises booking. Membership in the MSC Voyagers Club is subject to confirmation, which requires at least one cruise in three years. When joining the MSC Voyagers Club, the passenger is assigned an identification number, which is a confirmation of membership in the club. You will receive this number by email. On the first cruise after joining the club, this identification number will be printed on the cruise card. You can get assistance or get more detailed information on board by contacting the MSC VOYAGERS CLUB INFO POINT or the Reception. The cruise company warns that satellite Internet is not very fast. A quality connection during the entire cruise cannot be guaranteed, as it depends on the current weather conditions and the location of the liner. Internet access in the middle of the ocean is a real triumph of technology, satellite communications. However, the speed may not be as fast as what you are used to at home. This is because the transmitted data needs to cover a distance of 22,000 miles to the satellite and return back.

In turn, the cruise company continues to invest in modern technologies in order to provide guests with the maximum speed of communication.

You will find all the details and price offers for Internet access in the program of the day.

Internet cafe.

Your cruise card also allows you to use the internet. In the Internet cafe you can stay connected as you are used to. Fares information is available on board. The cruise company warns that satellite Internet is different in connection speed from the usual high-speed Internet. A quality connection during the entire cruise cannot be guaranteed, as it depends on the current weather conditions and the location of the liner.

Shore excursions..

On cruises with guaranteed Russian-speaking groups you will be offered an extensive excursion program in Russian. We traditionally treat this component of the cruise with extreme reverence and responsibility, given the heightened curiosity of our tourists.

Shore excursions are not included in the cost of the cruise and, if desired, are paid additionally. It is impossible to guarantee the possibility of ordering excursions in Russian directly on board - only when booking a cruise.

When traveling solo

You can order individual excursions in Russian (at least 1 month before departure) or purchase excursions in a foreign language (English, French, Italian, Spanish or German) directly on board. The deadlines for booking excursions on board are indicated in the programs of the day. You will find descriptions of excursions in a foreign language in your cabin and at the tour desk, if necessary, ask your agent for a description of excursions in advance.

We draw the attention of our guests to the following:
