MSC Poesia: the first ship to test shore power in Le Havre!
MSC Poesia became the first ship to connect to shore power in the port of Le Havre.
According to a press release, this symbolic event underlines the MSC Group's cruise division's commitment to the energy transition and is part of a broader effort to promote shore power technology and sustainable port infrastructure in France.
As part of this commitment to reduce emissions while in port to improve local air quality, MSC Poesia, MSC Preziosa and MSC Virtuosa will also be regularly connected to shore power in Le Havre in 2026.
The ceremony took place in the presence of Edouard Philippe, Mayor of Le Havre and President of Le Havre Seine Métropole, as well as Benoît Rochet, CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board of the Port of Haropa, and Herminio Esquena, Director of International Relations and Industrial Relations of MSC Group France.

Philippe noted:
"With this first shore power connection, Le Havre demonstrates that a major port can be efficient, welcoming, and exemplary at the same time. This is a source of pride for our city and a powerful signal for the future of the French coast."
Eskena added:
"MSC Poesia first shore power connection in Le Havre is a tangible confirmation of our commitment to the energy transition. We commend the vision and investment of the City of Le Havre and its partners, which are making this French port a European leader in sustainable infrastructure."
This month, MSC Cruises also celebrated one year since the start of shore power in the Mediterranean port of Malta when the ship MSC World Europa connected to shore, achieving a total of 300 hours of connection in the past twelve months.
The following day, Explora Journeys connected Explora I to shore power for the first time in Malta.
A week later MSC Seaview successfully tested its new shore power system in the Italian port of La Spezia.
Currently, 18 of the 25 ships operated by the MSC Cruises division are already equipped with shore power connection technology. In 2024, the MSC Cruises division completed 142 shore power connections in 13 European ports.
